Kooyong Teams Set For Pennant Grand Finals

Kooyong’s Women’s Grade 1 team, captained by Kate Antosik, and the Men’s Open Doubles Grade 1 team, captained by Chris Straford, are gearing up for their grand finals this weekend.

Kate’s team, including Belinda Woolcock, Annabelle Andrinopoulos, Molly Polak, Brigitte Beck, Laura McNamara, Catherine Louis and Laura Rabinovich, will play against last year’s winners Delahey Rec for the right to claim to 2014 flag.

Delahey Rec’s team features the Rajicic sisters, Viktorija and Monica, and they’ll be extremely tough to beat.

Both the men’s and women’s Grade 1 grand finals will be played at Kooyong in a feature day starting from 11am. Glenburn and North Ringwood No 2 will do battle in the men’s final.

All four singles matches will go on court to start the day and the four reverse doubles rubbers will follow soon after so the action will continue late into the day.

Chris Straford’s team, including Steve Gay, Wes Horskins, Claudio Gattino, Peter Owen, Tyrone Berger and Chris Costas, will play a strong Grace Park side at Glen Iris Valley Recreation Club starting at 1pm.

They will be shooting for an impressive fourth straight flag and are definitely the team to beat having dominated the Grade throughout the season.

Kooyong also has Connor Di Marco’s Grade 3 team hoping to reach the grand final when they play Maccabi at Maccabi from 12.30pm.

This young team continues to improve at a rapid rate and can lock in a Grade 2 berth if they win the grand final in two weeks time.

Bryce Mitchelson’s Grade 5 team are also through to the semi final and they have to wait for their opponents to come through the unplayed quarterfinal this weekend.

Good luck to all of our teams for their respective finals!
