John Peers has continued his impressive recent form on the ATP Tour with a title win at the Munich Open last week.
Partnering Jamie Murray, the pair eased past German wildcards Alexander Satschko and Jan- Lennard Struff 6/4 6/3 in the opening round before toughing it out 10/6 in a match tiebreaker against Lukas Dlouhy and Mate Pavic to reach the semi finals.
There they faced the top seeds and Australian Open Doubles finalists, Eric Butorac and Raven Klaasen, and they took their opportunities in the first set tiebreak and from there took control of the match to win 7/6 6/2 and secure a place in the final.
Both seeded pairs were knocked out of the bottom half of the draw in the first or second round which saw the British pair of Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins win through to the final without dropping a set.
The final was another great test for Peers and Murray as they head towards the French Open as they took a close opening set 6/4.
The ascendency was theirs and they continued on to record an impressive straight sets win 6/4 6/2 to hold up their fourth ATP Doubles title.
Meanwhile in An Ning in China, Andrew Whittington won his first ATP Challenger Doubles title when he partnered An Ning singles champion and his Australian Open doubles sidekick, Alex Bolt, to a straight sets victory in the final.
The top seeds started the tournament well with a straights sets win over wildcards Rukai Wang and Xuan Wang 6/3 6/1 before running into another wildcard pair in Peng-Xiang Gong and Xiao Gong who they defeated 6/4 6/4.
The semi final was another straight forward win for the young pair as they moved through to the final with a 6/4 6/1 win over Laurynas Grigelis and Nikola Mektic.
The boys then showed their class when they defeated Daniel Cox and Mao-Xin Gong 6/4 6/3 to take out their first title at this level and also get his doubles ranking down into double figures for the first time at 97.
Congratulations to both players!
